My History (Scott)

I’ve spent over 33 years in corporate IT. I started working back when … I don’t know, maybe ten? That was a long time ago. I mowed lawns, swept parking lots, bagged chickens. Yes, I actually bagged raw chickens! At that age, I had a passion for building go carts and working on motorcycles. By the time I was 16, I got a job at Wal-Mart! That was one of the best jobs (as a young teen) that any could wish for. I did everything from stocking, unloading trucks, cleaning bathrooms, mopping floors to assembly of furniture, lawn mowers, bicycles and toys. A few years later, I took a summer job doing landscaping. I think I was making $3 an hour. While on a job site (new neighborhood), there was a construction / framing company that was there. That’s all they did. Frame it and move on. One of the supervisors approached me, said he had been watching me. He wanted to know what I made, and if I would be interested in framing. When he asked me how much I made, I told him he said, “I’ll triple it, but you have to be on job site by 6AM everyday, and work minimum 12 hour days.” I jumped! It was only for the summer. Or two. I went from $3 an hour installing landscaping (minimum wage at the time was $2.85) to $8 an hour framing houses, and by the time I had finished that summer I was making $12 an hour, in 1986 / 1987. Important thing was not the money, but I learned how to frame houses, and how they are built! I LEARNED WORK ETHICS!

From there, I started working for an electrician.  I actually wanted to be an electrician. So I took on an apprenticeship.   Did that for a couple of summers. So that’s where I get my electrical experience.

I graduated high school, and after a stint in the United States Marine Corps (disabled combat veteran), I tried my hand at sales. But it somehow morphed into IT, and 33 years later … here I am. I won’t go into the details.

I’ve got over 33 years in corporate IT, building and supporting datacenters around the globe.
